I just can’t put this book down! Most famous today for his work As A Man Thinketh, this was actually the book that brought James Allen popularity in his day and the financial independence to write full-time. I’m loving all of it but Chapter 5 is my favorite!
While with all of Allen’s books, the power of thought is the central idea, in this work Allen goes into more detail about what it means to be prosperous, in every sense of the word. He does not consider the individual truly successful or happy who does not have health, quality relationships, a peaceful heart and a meaningful life purpose. His engaging poetic style and the depth of his ideas make this book one that can be returned to over and over again for continued enlightenment and understanding.

Reading Tip of the Month: Track themes in your book or in a notebook. As you read, find those dominant themes that Allen brings up again and again and write them in the back of your book. Then write page numbers next to those passages that most thorough describe the theme or which most resonate with you.
Principle Focus of the Month: Look for all the aspects of thought–where does it originate? how is it a choice? how can we can control our thoughts? what power do thoughts have? how does controlling our thoughts help us control our lives? are thoughts enough?
- If thought is so powerful, why don’t more people control their thoughts?
- What is so difficult about controlling your thoughts?
- How are emotion and thought connected?
- How can you know when you’re successfully mastering your thoughts?
- What results should you be looking for when you work on your thoughts?
- How long does it take to change thought patterns?
